This is a public test build for Project M (working title), a mario fangame I'm working on to help learn the Godot game engine. This build is pretty barebones, only having a single large level used to test/display every feature I've added in so far.

WASD, arrow keys to move. Space to jump, CTRL to crouch.

P or F5 to reset the level

I recommend using fullscreen mode, game looks a bit odd/blurry otherwise

Not all art is my own, some are taken from https://www.spriters-resource.com

I'm doing this for now so I can focus on the programming side while not having to look at ugly placeholder assets. All artists are credited below, and all art used has been altered and recolored for visual consistency:

Known bugs:

A whole buncha jank with mario's movement

Goombas sometimes get stuck on one another

Thwomps don't crush goombas or smash blocks

Sometimes goombas damage mario after getting stomped

Mario's hurt animation sometimes plays while jumping

Mario can stand on a spike block if he had invincibility frames when he collided with it
